Michael O'Bryant's essay for Mr. Vilandre
This student essay on We All Fall Down attributes Buddy's misfortune to fate. His alcoholism is spurred on by his parents' divorce. Harry perverts the lost father figure by encouraging vandalism and alcoholism. Finally, Buddy's break up with Jane cements his fated unhappiness.

Jacy Henerson's essay for Mr. Vilandre
This student essay on We All Fall Down compares Buddy and Jane and how each responds to being victimized. The role of family guidance in overcoming adversity factors largely in the comparison. Henerson also considers Jane and Buddy's relationship.

Stephen Thompson's essay for Mr Vilandre
This student essay on We All Fall Down links the title of the novel to the children's rhyme "Ring Around the Rosie" and to each character's sad fate. Thompson looks at Michael Stallings, Jane Jerome, and Buddy Walker as they fell into suicide, isolation, and alcoholism.

David Vilandre's letter to Robert Cormier
David Vilandre, Director of the Worcester County Young Writers' Institute, writes to Robert Cormier thanking him for his response to student questions on Fade. He encloses three student essays and questions on We All Fall Down regarding Harry's role as an antagonist and the separation of the novel into two parts. A brief mention of Vilandre's infant son reveals a personal connection between Vilandre and Cormier.

Robert Cormier's response to Karen
Robert Cormier responds to Karen's request for thoughts on a cover design for We All Fall Down. Cormier admits he likes the concept but thinks the figures in the window should be further up in the foreground and comments that the Jerome home has two floors rather than the one shown in the cover design. He shares a brief plea to no longer mention the Boston Red Sox.

Revision Notes for We All Fall Down
These notes on the structure of We All Fall Down reveal aspects of Cormier's drafting and revision process. The first page is a handwritten rough outline of major events in the chapters. The second page is a typed list of ten concerns on narrative structure and character motive. This serves as a revision to-do list.

John Richter's letter to Robert Cormier

John Richter, the Youthful Offender Program Coordinator at the Orange County Corrections Department in Florida, writes to Robert Cormier about his Literature-N-Living class. He describes the class and the work students do including discussion, essay writing, and reading comprehension quizzes.

Richter also describes the value of We All Fall Down to this population's need to understand the victim's perspective. He states the students also learned about trust, thoughtful communication, perseverance, and leadership. Leadership was particularly important to Richter because many of the inmates were incarcerated because they are followers that bend to peer pressure.

The class also read Tunes for Bears to Dance To, and in their study, they focused on racism, prejudice, false testimony, and forgiveness. Richter states the book helped inmates think about how they will be perceived upon release and how they will have to present themselves in the face of prejudice.
