In this drafted letter, Robert Cormier responds to Agee's correspondence. He opens by sharing how impressed he is with the students' insights and interpretations. In a section that is largely penciled out and re-written, Cormier shares his disappointment in the portrayal of the general - how he wished he had been better able to maintain more ambiguity until the end of the piece. He continues by mentioning that he had not anticipated such close analysis, but instead, hoped readers would be moved emotionally.

This seven-page draft of a section of We All Fall Down includes many pencil edits. The draft opens with the scene at the mall and the remarks on the crowds. Lines about teenagers and older people are crossed out. The piece continues with the Avenger considering where the Trashers will be found, and patrolling the mall in search of them. Then, the Avenger spots Jane and shares his memories/fantasies of her. Pencil edits make more clear how thinking about Jane makes the Avenger feel relieved and sad. The draft closes with the Avenger's determined thoughts of enacting justice.

In this hand-written letter, Sally-Anne shares with Cormier a number of quotes from After the First Death exploring the idea that Mark and Ben are the same character. She also asks a number of questions that are left obscured in the novel - having to do with the dream sequences. She poses specific questions with the goal of understanding the answers and better teaching her students. She closes with just a few questions about I Am the Cheese.

In response to Troyia, Robert Cormier explains the title of his piece. As he has in other letters, he explains how language can fall short as a tool of communication. He explains his views that while there is evil in the world, there is also good. In closing, he touches on the impulse of some individuals to corrupt the innocent. This he finds inexcusable.

In this letter, Troyia writes to Robert Cormier to ask about the title of the novel, Tunes for Bears to Dance To. She also asks about his thoughts on prejudice. Further, she reflects on the personal strength needed for a young boy to refuse the offer Mr. Hairston poses. Henry seems both a perpetrator and a victim.

Description
An account of the resource
In this letter to Mrs. Anti's class, Cormier answers many questions posed by the students. First, he outlines how he got the idea for the novel. As in other letters, Cormier cites his life as a news reporter and his proximity to Fort Devens - as well as his thoughts on terrorism. He goes onto address his interest in the Abrahman-Isaac story, specifically the elements of sacrifice, patriotism, and extremism. He then moves onto discussing some of the psychoanalytic aspects of the characters and situations - like the schizophrenic characters - present in the novel.

In this drafted letter, Cormier responds to Raymond's questions. He explains that the idea for the novel came from an act of vandalism reported on the news. Specifically, he wanted to understand why kids from 'average' families would commit such crimes. Cormier closes the letter by describing the teenage years as a terrible and terrific time - a time for finding identity.

Description
An account of the resource
Rebecca D. Pace, a seventh-grade student, wrote a typed two-page letter to Robert Cormier dated 12 March 1991. She talks about what a gripping and surprising novel We All Fall Down was. She openly admired Kate and specifically noted that Miro got away free. She notes that it was different for the hero to die and the villain to get away. It appears to be a fan letter and not connected to a school project.

Description
An account of the resource
In this three-page, handwritten letter by 12-year-old Alyssa O'Brien, the reader is introduced to a thoughtful young woman who has read several of Cormier's books twice or more in the interest of better understanding a book as time goes by. That she has a well-developed and agentive literate life is evident in her introduction where she identifies not only as a reader but as a writer. Furthermore, she carefully outlined a plan to introduce her friend, Chrissy, to Cormier's books. Her intent is to build Chrissy's readerly strength by prescribing an order - 8+1, and on finally ending with After The First Death at the very end.
